Sumo-Star Manga Drawing Competition Spotlights Sumo Wrestling and Tournament
Hayward, California (PRWEB) February 7, 2008 -- In a unique move that combines the ancient sport of sumo wrestling, manga illustration style, and the manga illustrator's tool of choice, Pigma® ink pens, Sakura Color Products of America Inc., and TOKYOPOP® today announce a collaborative effort that resulted in the Sumo-Star Manga Drawing Competition. As a sponsor and official writing instrument of the Grand Sumo Tournament in Los Angeles, Sakura Color Products of America, Inc., (Sakura), provides the grand prize of two tickets to attend the June 8, 2008 Grand Sumo championship bout in Los Angeles, CA. TOKYOPOP, the number one publisher of manga graphic novels in North America, imparts its well-known enthusiasm for manga and expertise in online drawing contests. TOKYOPOP will announce the winners at the New York Comic-Con on April 19th 2008, and post results on the company's website by April 20, 2008.
Sumo-Star Manga Drawing Competition begins online now and ends at 11:59 p.m. PST on March 30, 2008 and any entries after that time are ineligible to win. Legal residents at least teenagers of 13 years of age, (as of the date of entry), and living within the 50 states of the United States and the District of Columbia, participants may only enter this competition at www.tokyopop.com/sumostar .
Requirements include use of a Sakura brand ink pen to draw an original creation, manga-style piece of art, creating a free profile on TOKYOPOP.com, and submitting the drawing in a .gif file format, no larger than 50kb to SumoStar@tokyopop.com.
Drawings can be inspired by sumo wrestling, such as wrestlers, wrestling scenes and/or sumo ceremonies. Sakura incorporated manga illustrations in its booklet; Yoi-sho!: A Beginners Guide to Sumo Wrestling, describes sumo wrestling traditions, competitions and wrestling moves and along with its pen products can be found on Sakura's website: www.sakuraofamerica.com/prodimg/SumoBooklet.pdf
Three winners will be chosen after 11:59 p.m. on April 19, 2008 by a panel of TOKYOPOP employees. The first place prize is two tickets to the Grand Sumo Tournament on June 8, 2008 at the L.A. Memorial Sports Arena in Los Angeles, CA., two L.A. Sumo tournament T-shirts, an official Sumo autograph kit, an assortment of Sakura drawing pens, and a TOKYOPOP prize pack with a total retail value of approximately $400.00.
The second place prize is on L.A. Sumo tournament T-shirt, two authentic Sumo hand prints, an assortment of Sakura drawing instruments with a total retail value of approximately $200. The third place prize is one L.A. Sumo tournament T-shirt, one Sumo hand print, and an assortment of Sakura drawing instruments with a total retail value of approximately $100.
